I am a caregiver

I am here to care for people and animals. I am here to take care of nature. It is in my heart. It is the purpose of my journey.

As an assistant nurse I flowered. I expanded, I became my flow. But too many tried to stop me. They said I cared too much, that I had to shut down. Leave it be. They told me I had to turn a blind eye to things that happened, that never should have happened.

As your colleague I became a misfit. For all the reasons many of you hung out there – it wasn’t because you loved it. When I found someone to work with, who was truly a caregiver in their heart, they didn’t last long. Too often they had to numb them selves to withhold that blind eye – just to be able to stay… Or they left. Like me.

Some see me as a failure in my work life. I am proud to say I took a stand. I’m not outside and off without a reason. Maybe I am broke, but I am not broken. Maybe bent, but never ever broken.

Today my heart goes out to all of you who are working within the nursing homes and housings with special services. I know how the workload intensifies during summer season. With a warm heart to everyone I have ever worked with.

I am a caregiver, and I always will be.
